Dental Care for Seniors


(HealthDayNews) -- After age 50, most people develop some form of gum disease and tooth decay, according to the Delta Dental Plan of Minnesota.

Good oral hygiene is the best way to keep aging teeth healthy. Here's what you can do:

· Eat a balanced diet.

· Use fluoride toothpaste, floss regularly and drink plenty of fluoridated water.

· If you have dry mouth, ask your dentist about sugar-free candy or gum, or oral rinses to stimulate saliva flow.

· See your dentist at the first sign of trouble.

· Tell your dentist about any other health problems and medications you are taking.

· Ask your dentist for suggestions if you have trouble holding a toothbrush or floss.
